Event Description
Visit Eastern State Penitentiary for the "Voices of Eastern State" Audio Tour narrated by Steve Buscemi. Eastern State Penitentiary was once the most famous and expensive prison in the world, but stands today in ruin, a haunting world of crumbling cellblocks and empty guard towers. Its vaulted, sky-lit cells once held many of America's most notorious lawbreakers, including "Slick Willie" Sutton and "Scarface" Al Capone. You can arrive anytime between 10am and 4:00pm. When you arrive you'll pick up an audio guide and disposable earbuds on your way into the penitentiary. Once you have your audio guide, you'll follow a linear, one-way path through the site to help ensure physical distancing.
Eastern State Penitentiary is open rain or shine. Since most of the historic site is not climate controlled and has limited running water, we recommend checking the forecast on the day of your visit to prepare appropriately for your visit. This includes dressing for comfort and bringing or purchasing bottled water. Sandals, flip-flops, open-toed shoes, and high heels are not recommended.
