In Shakespeare’s dark comedy, Measure for Measure, the Duke appoints Angelo to take charge while he’s away. In an abuse of power, Angelo condemns Claudio to death for immoral behavior and his sister, Isabella, begs Angelo for her brother’s life. Angelo agrees to pardon Claudio if Isabella sleeps with him. The play explores themes like power and corruption, sex and sin, religion and society.
Our aim is to have attendees engage with this great play in whatever capacity they choose. You can come to read or just to listen. There will be no pressure, no judgment, no grades — just the chance to commune together over a great work of literature and provide some deep thought and a little laughter in our present moment.
Wednesdays starting November 29, 4-5 p.m. EST |
