Event Description
"Not Our Rice: Vibrations in Africana Foodways, Ecosystems, and Cultural Production" is an in-person event featuring Africana culinary traditions and the embodied transmission of Africana knowledge systems as they cohere in the life cycles of Africana foodways, spirituality, resistance, and healing arts.
You are invited to experience the incredible artists Cybille St. Aude-Tate and Omar Tate from Honeysuckle Provisions – who will cater and curate our event menu and offerings. The event takes place at Drexel University and will include local growers specializing in the cultivation of plants from the African world, a discussion from Africana Studies scholar and memory keeper Prof. Iyelli Ichile on Africana ways of knowing, being, and lifeways of our sacred peoples; and artist and choreographer Sanchel Brown, will perform and highlight the traditional African dance Temate, an expresseion of the life cycle of producing and cultivating rice.
