Event Description The second presentation in CCM’s Colloquia Series will feature Lore Hayek, a visiting Fulbright Scholar in the Department of Communication.
Political journalism in Austria Newspaper journalists play an important role in shaping voters’ perceptions of political actors and institutions. Particularly in election times, competition for the scarce space in newspapers is high, and editorial or journalistic decisions influence what or who makes the news and what does not. Using data from content analysis of election news coverage from four Austrian national elections (2008-2019), I will show how gender representation in the news evolved over time, what role readers’ letter play in election coverage, and whether certain parties enjoy particular support from certain newspapers.
Lore Hayek is visiting as a Fulbright Scholar at the Department of Communication, Drexel University in the fall of 2021. She is an Assistant Professor of Austrian Politics and Civic Education at the University of Innsbruck, Austria. She hold a PhD in Political Science from the University of Innsbruck (2016) and a MSc in Social Research Methods from the London School of Economics and Political Science (2009). Her research interests include political communication and political advertising in election campaigns, political journalism, and political crisis communication. lore.hayek@uibk.ac.at, Twitter: @lorehayek |
