The Association of Southeastern Research Libraries presents a webinar: "Special Collections and Archives: Exploring Recently Funded IMLS Projects"
Two recently funded grants will have a major impact on those working in the archives and special collections fields. The first IMLS project focuses on archival education, will provide valuable information for how we train the next generation of archives professionals. The second IMLS project provides funding for the Amistad Research Center is to complete the archival processing (arrangement, description and preservation) of the personal papers of African American women leaders active in a variety of fields, including the arts, social justice activism, labor activism, civic leadership, politics and business. Laura J. Thomson, Director of the Archives Division, has been an archivist for over twenty years, specializing in the arrangement, description, and preservation of archives and manuscripts collections, and has managed the Archives Division at Amistad for the last twelve years. She has a Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science from the University of South Carolina, a Master’s in Fine Arts in the Book Arts from the University of Alabama, and a certificate in Preservation Management from Rutgers University.
Alex H. Poole is an assistant professor at the College of Computing and Informatics, Drexel University. He holds a PhD and an MS from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, an MA from Brown University, and a BA from Williams College.
Jane Zhang is an associate professor at the Department of Library and Information Science of the Catholic University of America. She holds a PhD in LIS with Archives Concentration from Simmons College and a joint MAS and MLIS from the University of British Columbia.
