Escaping the trap of memorization: Using active learning strategies to facilitate pathophysiology knowledge synthesis

This presentation looks at the use of active learning strategies in undergraduate nursing pathophysiology students in order to facilitate knowledge synthesis. Specifically, the utilization of various modes of gamification (escape room, jeopardy, custom board games) and virtual reality are discussed. A discussion surrounding adaptation of active learning techniques for large classrooms and online environments, as well as barriers to implementation and strategies to mitigate, are also included.
