Why Youth Mental Health First Aid?
Youth Mental Health First Aid teaches you how to identify, understand and respond to signs of mental illness and substance use disorders in youth. This virtual training will provide you with the skills you need to reach out and provide initial support to children and adolescents (ages 6 –18) who may be developing a mental health or substance use problem and help connect them to the appropriate care. Additionally, schools are recognizing the value of having faculty and staff that are training in Youth Mental Health First Aid.

Why Now?
We know that youth are struggle with mental health challenges with about 1 in 5 youth struggling with a mental health challenge according to the National Alliance for Mental Health and a staggering 64% often do not get the care that they need. Additionally, the COVID-19 pandemic has isolated youth and more than ever educators need to recognize and know how to support and refer youth who are at risk.

What You will Learn:
  • Common signs and symptoms of mental illness in this age group
  • Common signs and symptoms of substance use
  • How to interact with a child or adolescent in crisis
  • How to connect the person with help
  • The 5 step action plan known as ALGEE
Registration is free and limited to the first 50 registrants.
