Title:
Out of the Lab: How Neurotech Will Finally Reach a Consumer Audience

Speaker:
Ramses Alcaide, PhD
President and CEO
Neurable

Details:
A variety of factors—whether niche use-cases or uncomfortable looking form factors—have created a significant gap between consumer knowledge about neurotechnology and how neoutech devices actually work. This gap has instilled an air of “science fiction” around the industry that has been difficult to overcome. For the non-neuroscience community, there remain many misconceptions, such as all neurotechnology devices require invasive procedures, or that these devices will somehow “read your mind.” Even though none of this is true, most general consumers have yet to understand and embrace the value that neurotechnology could bring to their lives.

In this talk, Dr. Alcaide will reflect on the challenges that the industry has consistently faced, and propose solutions based on his experiences as both a neuroscientist and the CEO of Neurable. Drawing from these experiences, he will discuss how the company has tackled these challenges head-on to leverage BCI to “create a world without limitations.” He will also shed light on how Neurable is building a device that will help consumers improve their productivity, focus, and concentration through a form factor that seamlessly integrates into their daily lives.

Biosketch:
Ramses Alcaide, PhD, is the CEO and co-founder of Neurable. As a researcher, he has worked extensively to develop brain-computer interface (BCI) technology for people with amputations, children with cerebral palsy, and people with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. As the leader of Neurable, Dr. Alcaide guides the company’s development of neurotechnology for a mass consumer audience. His honors include the Neuroscience Innovator Award, National Science Foundation Fellowship, and Ford Foundation Fellowship.
