Event Description
November is National Native American Heritage Month, a time to celebrate and honor those indigenous to the land that we now inhabit. One way that we can honor indigenous people is by doing our part to learn more about their history and cultural stories. The Lenape people are indigenous to Delaware, New Jersey, Southern New York, Eastern Pennsylvania, and other parts of the northeastern woodlands. They were the first tribe to sign a treaty with the United States and to have land set aside for them in New Jersey. We also owe the names of a lot of places to the Lenape language.

This year Drexel’s Student Center for Diversity and Inclusion is hosting a free dinner event that will feature Adam Waterbear DePaul, the Storykeeper of the Lenape Nation! Together we’ll learn more about the Lenape Nation and enjoy a meal featuring soul food staples like, Jerk Turkey, sweet potatoes, greens, and much more. Come and join us in our alternative thanksgiving!
